Forgotten orders make great surprises
This little gem landed through the post today, and what made its arrival even more special was the fact that I had forgotten I ordered it! I hope it’s as good as The Still Point- oh the pressure authors must endure after first time successes. So it was indeed a well deserved present on such a day in which my strength was being tested.
What you can not see in this picture is my right hand which was at the time pushing the wretched buggy backward & forth, trying to settle my little one who at 6 pm hadn’t had a nap all day. Her sinuses were causing her such distress that every time she managed to fall asleep, she’d jerk awake with a screech. I spent hours dancing to Edward Sharp & Leonard Cohen which put her to sleep but the second I sat done, that screech was released! And so? Tired & weary I asked the husband to bring the buggy up ( top floor flat) which is how he discovered my book (who checks for mail anymore ?)and so, I have the book in my left hand and pushing the baby in the right in the kitchen. And this post- well it’s being written on my phone well past midnight with the baby sleeping on my chest which is where she shall remain the rest of the night.
One day I will write by hand again and in fact I had my fountain out in my hand at one point when she dropped off , alas, she awoke & the pen had to be set down again. There will be time for that again but at the moment- I’m too busy learning all about life from a two month old!
I hope I get to read this book very soon. I do hope.
Surprise books are such a wondrous thing! Also, your poor bun! Have you tried running a very hot bath with a smidge of eucalyptus? If you keep the bathroom door closed, the steam does wonders – you don't have to actually put her in the bath. It's good for croupe and general coldy things too.
That's exactly what I do, without the oil though, I will give it a go. It's been such a long winter, a tough time to be born!
