Having Coffee with Balzac

Having Coffee with Balzac

Balzac was said to have drunk up to 20 cups of coffee a day, and I thought of this as my eyes began to close and go to sleep so early on this hot summer’s morning. For my own health, I never touch coffee, unless it’s Turkish, I am essentially, an avid tea drinker, Earl Grey preferably. This morning I reached out for the Turkish coffee, something strangely enough, I drink socially and never alone, this is bizarre, but we always drank it after a home made bbq or when family and friends were around, but never as a daily thing like in Cyprus. It is stronger, more delicious and heavier than instant coffee and a great pleasure. It’s real Coffee.
So today, my thoughts are on rewrites, Turkish coffee and the great Honore de Balzac, a man of pleasure and a lover of coffee and all that was bad for his gut. I raise my small cup to you.
